Basics of Sketching in LC

Fine Art Sketching

An example of the progression members will take to create a great sketch.

This week La Conner Members went back to the basics in the Art Room.  Youth sharpened their pencils and started with the fundamentals of sketching.  Art Coordinator Jeff Marriot taught basic techniques that will help the children to develop their sketching and drawing skills.  Later they learned the basic proportions of human faces and how to break a subject down into simple shapes, such as circles and ovals, before moving on to details and advanced features.

By filling their artistic toolbox with step-by-step knowledge and experience, Club Members will be churning out masterpieces in no time!

Fine Arts

The Fine Arts Exhibit program in La Conner  encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6-18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture while providing opportunities for members to create artwork for display in a local exhibit.

The Fine Arts Exhibit program runs every day from 2:30-5:00 p.m. For more information on upcoming art projects or any other Targeted Programs at the La Conner Club, please contact Arts Coordinator Jeff Mariott or Program Director, Leah Vazquez at (360) 466-3672

The Boys & Girls Club of La Conner kicked off Boys & Girls Club Week off with an Emergency Preparedness Fair on Monday, March 24th hosted by Puget Sound Energy & American Red Cross.
Over 70 Members, families, and community leaders took turns visiting each booth including; High Voltage, a twelve foot model of a community that illustrated the many potential electrical hazards. The American Red Cross showed attendees how to make a put together a disaster kit in case of an emergency- and even raffled one away that was one by the Haley Family. Puget Sound Energy gave great tips on how a family can make an evacuation plan and to practice so everybody can feel confident to be leaders in case of an emergency.
On Tuesday, March 25th, Club Members gathered in groups of five and canvassed the entire La Conner School District campus in search for trash and recyclable.
