Sedro-Woolley kids really COOK

Sedro-Woolley Top Chef's!

Thanks to a grant from Organic Valley, Sedro-Woolley Boys & Girls Club Members had the opportunity to participate in a 3-part cooking series this month. Taught by Volunteer Barbara Kehoe, the classes were a fun way for the Club Members to learn about working in the kitchen – from knife safety and proper food handling procedures to how to sauté onions and crack eggs. Another goal was for the kids try seasonal foods like chard and kale, ingredients they wouldn’t normally like, but the Kale Chips and Sweet Potato chips they made were a hit! The classes began with two sessions where the Club Members learned, cooked, and enjoyed the meals they cooked.  A Family Cooking Class concluded the series where kids showed off their knife skills and enjoyed telling their parents about the different ingredients and spices. The families created Veggie Chips as an appetizer, Yummy Swiss Chard Pie as the main dish, and a Fruit Salad with pumpkin seeds and walnuts for dessert.  Thanks to Organic Valley and Volunteer Barb for a making our Club Members into Top Chef’s!
