BGC Week in Full Swing
The Boys & Girls Club of La Conner kicked off Boys & Girls Club Week off with an Emergency Preparedness Fair on Monday, March 24th hosted by Puget Sound Energy & American Red Cross.
Over 70 Members, families, and community leaders took turns visiting each booth including; High Voltage, a twelve foot model of a community that illustrated the many potential electrical hazards. Safe Kids Skagit-Island had Club member learn how to give CPR using a mannequin attached to a simulated heartbeat sensor. The American Red Cross showed attendees how to make a put together a disaster kit in case of an emergency- and even raffled one away that was one by the Haley Family. Puget Sound Energy gave great tips on how a family can make an evacuation plan and to practice so everybody can feel confident to be leaders in case of an emergency.
On Tuesday, March 25th, Club Members gathered in groups of five and canvassed the entire La Conner School District campus in search for trash and recyclable. After thirty minutes, eight filled garbage bags, and a break in the weather, members had successfully completed their mission of making their school campus a clean and beautiful place once again.
This service opportunity is one of many the Club Members will be participating in this year. The goal of the Million Members, Million Hours Initiative is to have every Club Member in America participate in service throughout the year. The La Conner Club has pledged to complete 500 hours.
