The first Skagit Day of Giving fundraiser has already been deemed a huge success.

“The community support was phenomenal,” event director Colleen Smiley said Thursday night.

Thursday’s fundraising event had raised more than $250,000 by late evening.

Hosted by the Skagit Community Foundation at the St. Joseph Center in Mount Vernon, the event benefitted seven local nonprofit organizations: Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County, Friendship House, Museum of Northwest Art, North Cascades Institute, Padilla Bay Foundation, Skagit Land Trust and Skagit Symphony.

Each participating organization at the event was given an opportunity to raise up to $15,000 in matching funds.

Organizers reported preliminary results of more than $250,000, including the matching funds, had been raised, with some online donations and raffle funds yet to be counted. The organizations benefiting from the donations were: Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County, Friendship House, Museum of Northwest Art, North Cascades Institute, Padilla Bay Foundation, Skagit Land Trust and Skagit Symphony.

Donations to the Skagit Community Foundation can still be made at SkagitCF.org.
