Family PLUS Event at SW Club

October Family PLUS night on Monday, October 22nd at the Sedro-Woolley Boys & Girls Club.

On Monday, October 22, 105 Club members, parents and guests gathered at the Sedro-Woolley Boys & Girls Club to partake in the first Family PLUS Night of the year!

The evening started with a cozy dinner of soup and sandwiches, put on by The Forester’s and Club Teens, as well as tasty desserts donated by “Treats and Sweets by Renee”. Soroptimist International of Sedro-Woolley President Mary McGoffin presented Club Director Jill Reid with a check for $5,000, completing their contributions of $5,000 a year for 5 years, totaling $25,000. We are very appreciative to the Soroptimists for their support and advocacy; their contributions to our healthy lifestyles programs have provided numerous hours of targeted programs around this topic. Thank you again to the Sedro-Woolley Soroptimists.

The evenings’ learning component brought Wendy Lucas and team member Tiffany from Primerica Financial Services, who gave presented about financial planning and options for minimizing debt. Thank you Wendy and Tiffany for taking the time to help us keep more money in our pockets.

Youths of the Month for November were honored as well. Teen of the Month was Amelita Smith, 13, and Youths of the Month were Roger Geisendorf, age 9, and Alisea Sherman, age 6. Youths of the Month are based on Club Members who demonstrate excellence at the Boys & Girls Club. Teen Volunteer of the Month Tiffany Steuer was also recognized for her commitment to assisting the elementary-aged Club Members. Homework Star of the Month was Jonathan Salinas and Reading Star of the Month was Aiden Garrard. What a fun night to recognize all these outstanding kids!

The rest of Family PLUS night commenced with a family pumpkin decorating contest and Halloween games and activities throughout the Main Club AND the Teen Center. Congratulations to the winners of the pumpkin decorating contest! First Place went to the Aylor Family – Mom Jennifer and Club Members Isaac and Gabe. Second Place went to the Banda Girls – Club Members Paula, and twin sisters Melody and Melanie and Grandma Sue Hensley. All the pumpkins were very creative – and a big thank you to Board Member Dr. Larry Campbell for all the fabulous pumpkins!

Please join us for our next Family PLUS Night on Friday, November 16th from 6 pm to 8 pm.
