Fit Club Parfait Action

This week in the Healthy Habits Fit Club, led by Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator, Leah Vazquez,  Members talked about fluids and the need for hydration. Some of the key points that both Leah and Healthy Lifestyles Assistant, Taysha James hit home were that fluids are extremely important for the body, because our bodies use up fluids we drink, so we have to replace them, or “hydrate.”

The Members also learned that all beverages replace the fluids our body uses. Some have no calories (water, zero-calorie soft drinks, many flavored waters, zero-calorie sports drinks and coffee and tea), and some do have calories (100-percent juice, fruit drinks, sports drinks, fluid milk and other soft drinks).

The session wrapped up with the making of homemade parfaits. Members used low fat vanilla yogurt, all natural granola, raisins, cranberries, and pineapple to  create these deliciously healthy treats.

Healthy Habits Fit Club is a portion of the “Mind” component of Triple Play, and its goal is to encourage our Members to eat smart and maintain physical activity as a way to improve their overall health and well-being.
 
Healthy Habits Fit Club will teach Club Members about the benefits of good nutrition and physical activity, equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to adopt healthier habits and encourage them to take small steps toward positive behavior change.
