Healthy Habits Fit Club

Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator, Leah Vazquez helps Members understand the importance of fruits and vegetables.

This week in La Conner’s Healthy Habits Fit Club, Members were taught the importance of eating as many different colors of fruits and vegetables as possible. Produce helps different parts of the body stay healthy, and kids need about 1/2 cups of vegetables and 1/2 cups of fruit every day. Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator, Leah Vazquez pointed out that red colored fruits, like the pomegranate,  are important to the body because they keep our hearts, our kidneys and our skin healthy. And purple colored veggies like the eggplant, improve heart strength, help our kidneys work better, and help us remember better. The group ended the session by making brown paper bag puppets to depict fruits and vegetables in different color groups, then took turns using clues to guess which fruit or vegetable each Member represents.

Healthy Habits Fit Club is a portion of the “Mind” component of Triple Play, and its goal is to encourage our Members to eat smart and maintain physical activity as a way to improve their overall health and well-being.
Healthy Habits Fit Club will teach Club Members about the benefits of good nutrition and physical activity, equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to adopt healthier habits and encourage them to take small steps toward positive behavior change.
