Club Members create their own smoothies in Healthy Habits

This week in Healthy Habits, 9-12 year old members learned about healthy snacking and how to create their own recipes. They customized a smoothie recipe after receiving a basic framework. As the recipe changed, they were also challenged to critically think about how to alter ingredients in order to attain the desired taste and consistency. A few groups were even bold enough to take on Rexanne’s challenge of adding spinach to their recipe! You cannot taste spinach in a smoothie which makes it a great way to add in more vegetables to your diet. Our cooking project yielded the following amazing recipes:

Mexican Fruity Smoothie

½ cup orange juice

½ cup apple juice

½ cup plain non-fat yogurt

½ banana sliced

¾ cup frozen strawberries

½ cup frozen blueberries


Tootie Fruity

1 cup apple juice

½ cup non-fat yogurt

1/3 cup spinach

½ banana sliced

1 ¼ cup frozen strawberries


Pineapple Strawberry Smoothie

1 cup pineapple juice

¼ cup apple juice

1 cup frozen strawberries

¼ cup frozen blueberries

½ banana sliced

1/3 cup spinach
