La Conner Boys & Girls Club announces the winners of its ImageMakers National Photography Contest, sponsored by Sony Electronics Inc. The winners are:

  • Allison H., Nature’s Home, Surroundings, 6-9
  • Samantha D., Club Hands for a Bridge to Friendship, Culture & Tradition, 6-9
  • Ellie M., Gumball Glee, Surroundings, 10-12

With more than 38,000 kids participating annually and 30 kids locally, the ImageMakers Photography Program teaches Club Members age 6-18 the art and science of photography. As part of the program, the ImageMakers National Photography Contest, which has a rich, 50-plus-year history in Boys & Girls Clubs, invited young people to capture photographs in four different categories: culture and tradition, surroundings, portraits and photo with essay or poem.

As a local winner, these three Members will advance to regional competitions in Santa Monica, California for a chance to advance to the national competition later this spring. National winners’ artwork will be featured by Boys & Girls Clubs of America throughout the year, and the winners will receive educational opportunities to celebrate their success.

“We are proud of our Members whose artwork has been recognized with the local awards of the ImageMakers National Photography Contest and wish each of them luck as they advance to the regional competition,” said Kendrick Davis-Pittmon, Club Director “We are grateful to Sony Electronics for their support in providing our Club access to programs and tools in the area of photography to educate and engage all young people in the arts.”

The La Conner Boys & Girls Club also received a photography package, which included several Sony point-and-shoot cameras, Sony interchangeable lens cameras and Sony VAIO computers, as well as a stipend to help offset printing and other photography-related costs. The program is free to any student in the community. The program will run on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and will be led by Arts Coordinator Jeff Mariott and Program Assistant Wendy Bell.

All photographs from the winter session of ImageMakers will be on display at the La Conner Club located at 305 North 6th Street, and  in participating local businesses.
