La Conner: Teen Outdoor Expedition

La Conner Staff and Teens after braving the frigid waters of the mighty Skagit River.

Thanks to the generous support of the Skagit Community Foundation, Foothills Toyota, and the George B. & Ruth Elizabeth Ferguson Advised Fund for making this wonderful opportunity possible for our Teens.

Teens from the La Conner Boys & Girls Club embarked on their first TOE (Teen Outdoor Expedition) adventure today, a 14 mile white water rafting trip down the Skagit river. At 8 AM in the pouring rain the Club van left La Conner and headed East towards the Cascades and by 10 AM we were gearing up for what was, for most of us, our first experience with white water rafting.

Equipped with wet suits, fleeces, splash jackets, water boots and being lead by our trusty guides from Wild & Scenic River Tours  we took to the rushing waters of the Skagit and were quickly soaked from head-to-toe. Thankfully the rain stopped and we enjoyed a fairly calm 10 mile stretch of river, taking in all the amazing sights now surrounding us: the colors of fall,  mountains, bald eagles, and leaping salmon.

We took to shore for lunch under the evergreens then returned to the river for the last 4 miles of our journey, filled with churning eddies, quick rapids, and cheers (some screams) of excitement.

Thanks again to our guides from Wild & Scenic River Tours for making this an unforgettable expedition.
