Brave Heroes Torch Club wins National Merit Award for their 2013 Service Project

The Boys & Girls Club of La Conner’s Brave Heroes Torch Club has received a National Merit Award from Boys & Girls of America . The honor was presented for their Torch Club’s National Service Project, “Connecting with Animal Friends,” which included $500 award and a certificate of achievement.

The project involved taking a volunteer orientation course at the Skagit Humane Society to learn how to properly work with animal. Members also got a visit from the La Conner Veterinary Hospital and discussed animal care, grooming, and skills needed to pursue a career in working with animals.

Torch PAWS logoTorch Club Members also made dog treats and cat toys as a fundraiser to support the services at the humane society and have pledged to continue volunteering with organizations relation to animal care throughout the year. 

Torch Club is a small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. Through service activities, Torch Club Members identify Club and community needs, develop programs and activities and actively participate in their community.
