MoNA Arts Club Springs Ahead with Mural Project

MoNA Fine Arts

MoNA Outreach Director, Christine Wardenburg-Skinner works with a Club Member on her mural design

This week at the La Conner Boys & Girls Club, MoNA Arts Club emphasized recognizing art in nature, focusing on the seasonal theme, spring. Club Members used visual thinking strategies to discuss a painting which would emphasize spring colors, using the discussion to consider how colors create seasonal awareness. Members then looked at a several photographs from the Skagit Valley Herald archives showing images of spring in the local farming areas, and discussed which colors might best describe spring and what features might be included.
Next, each Member drew their own interpretations of spring in Skagit Valley, using colored pencils to complete their designs. Finally, they glued their drawings onto colored paper, then pasted their creations to the front of a folder so that each Member could have a decorative portfolio to store their artwork.
This art lesson was a part of theMoNA Fine Arts Club mural project, in which Members will create a seasonal mural to be displayed at the Sunrise Food Bank.

MoNA Fine Arts Club will meet again, Monday, November 18th from 2:45 p.m.-3:45 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. -4:30 p.m. on museum field trip days. If you are interested in signing up your Member for this fantastic experience, please contact our Program Director, Annie Webb or Club Director, Kendrick Davis-Pittmon.

Thank you to Christine and MoNA for partnering with us to make this art enrichment experience possible.
