Youth of the Month

We recognize and affirm our young people’s self-worth and accomplishments. Staff members encourage our youth and provide positive reinforcement as they make improvements and experience successes.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County showcases young people’s achievements through our Youth of the Month and Youth of the Year programs.

Girl of the Month

Haylee S. Age 8

Haylee is a third grader at Centennial Elementary. She is one of our newest club members only having attended since September. However, in the few months she’s been here she has excelled in every area. She is respectful to everyone around her and participates in a wide array of activities at the club. She has been a joy to have!

Oscar M. Age 7

Oscar is a first grader at Little Mountain Elementary.  He has been attending our club since the beginning of summer. In that time he has been an absolute delight. He is known for bringing a smile to the faces of staff with his antics. He has also demonstrated a respectful demeanor and a great attitude and is well liked by peers and staff alike. He looks at everything with wonder and inspires enthusiasm in those around him.

Samuel is a third grader at Lincoln Elementary. He has been part of our club since the beginning of summer. In that time he has been a great addition to the club. You can regularly find him outside playing games, in the homework center or in the gamesroom. He has worked hard to accomplish reading goals lately. Kami is a second grader at Madison Elementary. She has been a part of our club for a year and a half. She has a sweet personality and is a budding artist. Although she’s quite shy, Kami can usually be found working hard on another artistic creation whenever the art room is open.

King is a fourth grader at Lincoln Elementary. He has been coming to the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club for  almost a year. He has been a great addition to our Club and we have enjoyed having him. He is respectful, demonstrates great sportsmanship and carries himself like a leader, but he can also be fun and goofy.

October 2017 Youth of the Month

Girl of the Month

Angie G. Age 6

Angie is a first grader at Madison Elementary. She has been attending the Mount Vernon Club since May of this year. In that time, she has been a joy to have in so many of our programs. She gets involved in art, is respectful to staff and fellow students, and is intentional in doing her homework. Her sweet personality is one of the first things people notice about her.

Kevin is a second grader at West View Elementary. He has been attending our club since April 2016. He has distinguished himself with his sportsmanship and respect. His favorite part of being at the club is Triple Play outside, but he also shows his good character in the Gamesroom and in his interactions with staff and fellow club kids.

Isaias is a second grader at Madison Elementary. He is one of our newest joins having only been here since the beginning of September, but in that time he has impressed staff again and again with his good attitude, sweet personality and excitement to get involved in activities across the club. Esmeralda is a fifth grade student at Lincoln Elementary. She is another of our brand new joins, having only been part of our club since the beginning of September. However, in that short time, staff have noticed that whenever the art room is open she can usually be found in there working on some new art piece and clearly enjoying her time in there.  She also spends time in power hour and the gamesroom.

Eliana is a third grader at Little Mountain Elementary. She has been attending the Mount Vernon club for three years. In that time, she has been a staple in so many of our programs. She gets involved in art, participates in our many outdoor activities, and is respectful to staff and fellow students.

Naomi is a first grader at Jefferson Elementary. She has only been a member since January, but in that time she has always made a point to get her homework done before doing other club activities. Cooper S. Age 7

Cooper joined the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club this summer and is currently a 1st grader at Washington Elementary School. Cooper is always carrying a smile on his face ready to join in on any activity the Club has to offer. Whether he is participating in an outdoor game, working on his homework in the Learning Center, or playing Bumper Pool, Cooper is always having fun with his friends, all while being respectful and demonstrating great character and citizenship.

Faith is a 4th grader at Madison Elementary School and joined the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club back in 2013, making this her fourth year attending. She is an amazing presence at the Boys & Girls Club by doing her homework in Power Hour, getting creative in the Art Room, and finding time to play outside. Faith has grown into a great leader and role model for other members by being a productive, caring and responsible youth through the various activities she has done at the Club!

Agustin is a 4th grader attending Centennial Elementary School and has been coming to the Club for 3 years now. Agustin is always seen working on his homework before he does any other activity in the Club. Recently, he has been participating in the Power Hour Star Readers Challenge and in doing so has accumulated over 100 minutes of reading, the highest of all youth in the Club!

Ashley G. Age 9

Ashley has been attending the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club for 2 years and is currently a 3rd grader at Centennial Elementary School.  Ashley is always ready to work on any project the Art Room has to offer. Her imagination and creativity have helped her create amazing pieces of art, ranging from complex paper crafts, to drawings of cartoons. She loves participating in Drawing Club and is always willing to help other members, carrying a smile on her face!

Karlin is a 3rd grader attending Washington Elementary School and started coming to the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club back in January of 2015. Karlin can always be found playing his favorite activities outside which include soccer, dodgeball and shark shark attack. He doesn’t care about winning or losing, as long as he is out there having a blast with his peers, which makes him a great role model for other youth.

Felix is a 5th grader and attends Madison Elementary. This is Felix’s fourth year at the club and he has made this place better just by being here. He is always willing to help, and was recently accepted to our Jr Staff program, which we will get to see more of his great potential.

Madylin attends Centennial Elementary as a first grader. She has been attending the club for 2 years and during that time she has opened up to many of the other members and staff. Members and staff appreciate Madilyn’s smile because anytime she joins a program she is happy and ready to participate.

Daisy is attending Centennial Elementary and is currently a fifth grader there. Daisy has  been a great role model for the other kids by attending Power Hour. When other members see that she is going to be doing homework she has encouraged others to do the same.

Hailey is a First grader attending Little Mountain Elementary and is currently in Second grade. As new member only starting out in September, she has really loved joining our Art Programs. She is always found in the art room creating some amazing things. Sometimes she goes around and shows the other staff what she has created and can’t wait to show her mom when she gets to the club to be picked up.

Adrian is a third grader attending Madison Elementary. Adrian has attended the club since he was a kindergartener and this is his fourth year. Ben B. Age 8

Ben started attending the club as a 1st grader back in 2014. He is really outgoing with both staff and members. He loves making up games and invites his friends to join him, once a program he loves starts like Dodgeball he will ask his friends to join so that everyone can join in on the fun.

Angelina started attending the club last year. She is a Washington Elementary student in the 4th grade. Angelina is an amazing young girl who has really taken a liking to the club. She likes checking in on other programs when she arrives then is helping out while still having fun in whatever she chooses to participate.

Ashley is a young girl who started at the club last year, you can be sure to find her in the learning center as soon as the door opens. Ashley Attends Jefferson elementary as a 3rd grader. Since she has started attending Power hour she has shown to be a very bright young girl.

Andrew attends Centennial elementary as a 4th grader. Andrew is a bright young boy who is always looking for what fun activity he wants to play. If you were to visit the club you would most likely find him engaging in our triple play program. Andrew loves any of our more active activities, some of our favorites are things like Shark Shark Attack or Dodgeball.

Tristen started attending the club when he was just 6 years old back in october of 2014. He is really outgoing with both staff and members and is always on the look out for which of his friends have arrived to invite them to join him in whichever program he’s attending at the moment, like Power hour or Smart Games room.

Makayla is a bright young girl who is always asking staff is there is anything she could do to help out the club. When a program she wants to participate she also always asks if she could help with that program. She is also part of our satellite program The Grizzly Hangout which she really enjoys attending.

Joselyn started attending the club in the summer of 2015, She is now currently a 2nd grader attending Centennial Elementary School.  She has really grown to love doing homework during Power hour. If you ever walk into the Learning Center right after school you could see her in there doing her homework with a smile on her face.

Nathan attends Jefferson Elementary as a 3rd grader. Nathan has been doing an amazing job on involving other members to join in on a game. He has also learned to lead little groups in outside activities. He will sometimes ask to play fliers up with others and the group has been self lead under staff supervision.
