Dinner with Friends

All of the Clubs have recently wrapped up their Dinner with Friends events and are looking forward to Youth of the Year on January 25th.

Youth of the Year and Junior Youth of the Year candidates prepared speeches, working with their mentors, and then went through an interview process with community members chosen as judges. Each presented their speech during Dinner with Friends, and the selected candidates were announced. Candidates will go on to participate in January, with the possibility of continuing on to the State and National levels.

This year’s Youth of the Year attendees can look forward to hearing speeches from select youth representing their Club. Congratulations to Erin Huffstodt (Anacortes Youth of the Year), Geoffrey Hamilton (Anacortes YOY Runner-Up), Ivy Thomas (Anacortes Jr. YOY), Kianna Justus (Mount Vernon Jr. YOY), Hannah Galvan (LaVenture Jr. YOY), Francisco Sanchez (Mount Baker Jr. YOY), Charles Baker (La Conner YOY), Elijah Porter (La Conner YOY Runner-Up), Alex Davidson (La Conner Jr. YOY), Paula Banda (Sedro-Woolley YOY), Charlie Branther-Waxham & Kindred Marden(Sedro-Woolley YOY Runner-Ups), and Hayley Myrick (Sedro-Woolley Jr. YOY).

Aside from Youth of the Year, select Club members were awarded for excellence in Sportsmanship, Art, Good Character, STEM, and Homework.

Additionally, the Clubs took time to recognize Community members for exceptional service. The Anacortes Club’s Dean Maxwell Service Award went to Police Chief Bonnie Bowers; Mount Vernon’s Jack & Claudette Gubrud Service Award was presented to Dani Russell. The Dr. Kenyon Knopf Service Award was presented to Jennifer Fix, and the Sedro-Woolley Mike & Dianne Crawford Service award went to Christine Johnson. Thank you to these heroes of the Clubs!

Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County would like to thank everyone for coming out to support youth, especially those that participated in the judging process, and the community council members. Club members gain valuable experience from the Youth of the Year process. It means a lot to them when the community shows their support by coming to hear them speak and accept their awards.
