LC Youth of the Month – January 2015

Eliza, age 10

Eliza has been a member for 5 years.  She is always in a positive mood and gets involved in many Club activities including Torch Club, Power Hour, SMART Girls and Triple Play Games.  Eliza loves “most everything” about the Club and wants to earn a college degree.

Kale, age 6

Kale is in Kindergarten and is enjoying his first year at the Club.  He has excellent manners and is always a big help when it is time to clean the Education Center.  Kale’s favorite game to play at the Club is checkers.  When he grows up, he hopes to become a fireman.

Annie, age 11

Annie has been attending the Club for 3 years.  In the past she has been very active in Torch Club and continues to enjoy field trips and Club fundraisers.  Annie’s favorite thing to do at the Club is hang out in the Teen Corner, but she also enjoys Cooking Club.  Annie’s goal for the future is to become a lawyer.

Kyle, age 6

Kyle is in his second year of membership at the Club.  He likes to get his homework done at the Club because then he has more time to play!  Games involving blocks, Legos, or Power Rangers are  his favorites.  When he grows up, Kyle wants to be a real estate agent like his dad and sell houses.

Soleil, age 10

Soleil has been a member for 3 years and loves getting involved in Triple Play activities as well as Torch Club, SMART Girls and Cooking Club.  Soleil has shown great improvements in her sportsmanship over this school year and Club Staff are so proud of her!  In the future, Soleil hopes to work at the La Conner Boys & Girls Club so she can help kids.

Cole, age 9

This is Cole’s second year at the Club.  He is very involved in Torch Club but his favorite place at the Club is the Art Room.  Pencil drawings are Cole’s favorite kind of art and someday he hopes to earn a living by selling his drawings.

LC Youth of the Month – December

Jensen, age 9

Jensen has been a member for 3 years.  While at the club, she can be found taking part in a number of activities including Torch Club, SMART Girls, Power Hour, Art Club and Image Makers.  When asked what her favorite thing is about the Club, Jensen said that it is being with all of her friends and being able to do fun things.  Jensen would like to become a surgeon when she grows up.

Braxton, age 6

This is Braxton’s first year at the Club.  He enjoys taking part in Power Hour, art, Triple Play games, and playing Legos.  Braxton has a great attitude and shows wonderful sportsmanship.  When asked what is favorite thing is about the Club, he said that it is either playing air hockey or capture the flag.  Braxton hopes to join the Army when he gets older.

Jessica, age 18

Jessica recently moved to La Conner from Texas.  She has been enjoying the LC Teen Corner to hang out with her friends, and has recently began volunteering to help with other activities around the Club as well.  Jessica’s favorite thing about the Club is interacting with the younger members and helping them learn.  After high school, Jessica plans to go to college and hopes to study early childhood education.

Joshua
, age 7

Joshua has been a member for 3 years.  He is very active in the Club and loves Triple Play games, SMART Kids and tournaments.  His favorite things to do while he is at the Club are air hockey, foosball, Power Hour and reading.  Joshua’s goal for the future is to become a doctor so that he can save lives.

Hayden
, age 10

Hayden is in his first year at the Club and is enjoying it so far.  He is the first to sign up for Club Stratego or Chess tournaments and also participates in Triple Play games and Power Hour.  Hayden is a great athlete and shows good sportsmanship on the field.  He also helps younger kids during more difficult games.  When asked what his favorite thing is about the Club, Hayden said that it is being able to hang out with kids his age and have fun.  When he grows up, Hayden hopes to be a wide receiver for the Huskies, then the Seahawks.

Morgan
, age 7

Morgan has been a member for 3 years.  She is very active in the Art Room and does an excellent job following directions.  Morgan also participates in many Triple Play and Project Learn activities.  Morgan’s favorite thing about the Club is that she gets to do fun things, like art and games, with all of her best friends. Morgan has many goals for the future, including being a teacher, working at the Boys & Girls Club as a leader, and working at a grocery store.

LC Youth of the Month – November

Sofia, age 7

Sofia has had a great first couple of months at the Club. She is new to La Conner but has jumped right in and made many friends. While at the Club, Sofia gets involved in Power Hour, Project Learn activities such as Lego Challenges, and Triple Play games, like Line Tag. When asked what her favorite thing is about the Club, she said it is playing Fire in the Jungle and building with Legos. Sofia has dreams of helping sick animals and hopes to be come a veterinarian when she grows up.

Christian, age 8

Christian began attending the La Conner Boys & Girls Club at the beginning of this past summer. Since then, he has made a positive impact on the Club, showing great sportsmanship during games and demonstrating excellent manners. When at the Club, Christian is most often found in the Knopf Education Center during Power Hour, or outside playing Triple Play games. When asked what his favorite thing is about the Club, he said it is playing Dodgeball and Ping Pong. Christian has a strong interest in animals and would like to become a Zoologist. His current favorite animal is the Desert Hawk.

Fabian, age 14

 Fabian has spent the past 7 years involved with the Clubs. Since the opening of the Teen Corner at the LC Club, Fabian has been in attendance almost everyday and has gotten involved in many teen activities. Fabian’s favorite thing about the Club is the trust between the staff and the teens, and the freedom that the teens are allowed. He enjoys heading outside to shoot hoops with his friends and challenge others to a game of Madden 25 on the Xbox, which is his favorite thing to do at the Club. Fabian is set on creating his own future and has made a goal for himself to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.5 throughout his high school career, before heading off to college.

Jeremiah, age 7

Jeremiah has been attending the La Conner Club for 2 years. When at the Club, he can be found in a number of places, including the Education Center working on homework, playing with Legos in the Gamesroom, or in the gym playing Triple Play games. When asked what his favorite thing is about the Club, Jeremiah said that is it Power Hour, because getting his homework done early at the Club means that he has the rest of the afternoon and evening to play! In the future, he would like to become a scientist and work with animals. Jeremiah’s favorite animal is the monkey!

Ellie M., age 9

Ellie has been a member of the Club for 2 years.  She is very involved in Club activities, including SMART Girls, Triple Play games, Power Hour and the La Conner Brave Heroes Torch Club, of which she is the current president. When asked what her favorite thing is about the Club, Ellie quickly replied that she enjoys the Daily Challenge and playing basketball and volleyball. As a natural athlete, Ellie is committed improving her game and becoming the best athlete she can be. Ellie would also love to go on tour with Taylor Swift.

Emma, age 10

Emma has been attending the La Conner Club for 2 years. She is one of the first to get her homework done every. Emma loves heading outside to play, attending Torch Club meetings, and venturing into the Art Room. Emma’s favorite thing to do at the Club is work on art projects, she especially loved the recent sculpture challenge. When asked what she’d like to do in the future, Emma said that she would like to be a great athlete and excel in sports like archery and golf.

Youth of the Month – October

Erin, age 10

Erin joined the Club this school year and has been a great addition to the La Conner Club.  She is very involved in Power Hour, Triple Play and Positive Sprouts and recently joined SMART Girls and Torch Club.  She is always quick to help when an extra hand is needed around the club.  Erin’s favorite thing to do while she is at the Club is to participate in art projects.  When she grows up, she’d like to join the Coast Guard.

Alex, age 10

Alex has been spending his afternoons at the Club for 2 years.  While here, he enjoys taking part in Triple Play games, Prize Bingo, anything Pokemon related, and most recently, Torch Club. When asked what his favorite thing about the Club is, he said that it is hanging out with his friends and the Pokemon Tournaments.  His goal for this year is to earn 800 Club Bucks so that he can afford the Wii in the Club Store.

Summer, age 13

Summer has been a member for 2 years.  While at the club she enjoys helping younger kids with their homework, being the Cooking Club photographer and spending time with her friends hanging out at Teen Night.  When asked what her favorite thing about the Club is, Summer said it is helping to clean up the building and Teen Night.  In the future, Summer hopes to join the Navy or be a police officer.

Anthony, age 8

Anthony has been a member for 2 years.  When he’s at the club, you can find him participating in Triple Play activities, working on his homework during Power Hour or in the Gamesroom.  When asked what his favorite thing about the Club is, he said it’s taking part in the Daily Challenge and getting his homework done so he has more time to play.  Anthony would like to work at the La Conner Boys & Girls Club someday, to teach other kids how to play fun games like dodgeball.

Rachel, age 9

Rachel has been coming to the Club for 2 years.  She does her best to have a positive outlook every day and to be friends with everyone.  Rachel loves participating in all kinds of art projects and has a great sense of creativity that she brings to the table in all of her work.  When asked what her favorite thing is about the Club, she said that it is hanging out with her friends and getting to be herself.  In the future, Rachel would like to help make the world a better place by putting an end to littering.

Youth of the Month -September 2014

Sammy, age 9

Sammy has been a member for 4 years. When she is at the Club, she gets involved in many different activities including Torch Club, Positive Sprouts, SMART Girls, Image Makers and more!  When asked what her favorite thing about the Club is, she said it is the Cooking Club, that just started because loves baking and cooking (and eating!), and Image Makers, because she likes to work with a partner and explore the town of La Conner to take photos.  Sammy is currently writing a book and hopes to become and actor or director in the future.

Kody, age 8

Kody joined the Club this past June.  He attended the Club almost every single day this summer and participated in so much, although Triple Play and all things Pokemon were first to draw his attention.  When asked what is favorite thing about the Club is, he said that it is playing air hockey and getting to go outside and to the gym to play games like Fliers Up.  Kody is currently on the Braves football team and hopes to play football in college for the University of Washington Huskies.

Riley, age 12

Riley has been a member of for 3 years.  She is involved in a wide variety of activities at the Club and is always volunteering to help when it is needed.  She has been a leader during targeted activities, such as Torch Club and SMART Girls, and also enjoys getting outside to play games like tag and dodgeball.  When asked what her favorite thing about the club is, Riley said it is getting to see all of her friends, and her mom, who works at the La Conner Club!  Riley also likes learning new skills during the Triple Play games.  In the future, she hopes to get a volleyball scholarship and play through college.

Raegan, age 9

Raegan joined the club this past June.  Throughout the summer, she showed an interest in many different art projects and always puts her all into her artwork.  She also enjoys Triple Play games, Pokemon and reading.  When asked what her favorite thing about the Club is, Raegan said it is drawing, especially animals, and looking at Pokemon cards with her friends.  Her goal for the future is to be a really smart scientist.

Carter, age 8

Carter has been a member for 3 years.  While at the Club, he gets involved in Triple Play activities the most, and he has shown a great improvement in his positive sportsmanship over the summer.  When asked what his favorite thing about the club is, Carter said it is seeing his friends, playing air hockey, creating new things with the Legos, and his two favorite TP games: dodgeball and fire in the jungle.  His goal for the future is to become a racer.  And to get Pokemon X.

Moriah, age 6

Moriah has been a member for 1 year.  While she is at the Club, she gets involved in Triple Play and Project Learn activities, Power Hour and Positive Sprouts.  When asked what her favorite thing about the Club is, she said it is playing Legos with friends and eating snack.  Moriah also enjoys going on field trips and working in the garden during Positive Sprouts.  Her goal for the future is to work at the Boys & Girls Club.

Rachel, age 8

Rachel has been a member for 2 years.  While she is at the club, she gets involved in Power Hour, SMART Girls, Positive Sprouts, Project Learn and Art activities.  When asked what her favorite thing about the Club is, she said that it is spending time with her friends.  Rachel always helps staff when they need a hand and she sets a great example for other members.  Her goal for the future is to be an astronaut.

Allison, age 9

Allison has been a member for 3 years. While she is at the Club she gets involved in Power Hour, Triple Play, Project Learn and SMART Girls activities. When asked what her favorite thing about the Club is she said that is the fact that she can hang out with her friends and work in the Art Room. Her goal for the future is to be a fourth grade teacher.

When asked what his favorite thing about the Club is he said that playing basketball with his friends is the best. When asked what her favorite  part of the Club is she said that it is playing air hockey and having time to play with friends from school. When asked what her favorite thing about the Club is she said that being able to go outside on sunny days and play in nature are the best. Alex has been a Club member since 2011 and attends La Conner Elementary. Alex can always be found in the Art Room working on his Clay Tech animation with his friends. He is also a regular Daily Challenge participant.

Morgan has been a member since 2011 and attends La Conner Middle School. Morgan is the current Brave Heroes Torch Club treasurer. Her leadership skills and passion for service to the Club is one of the reasons why she was selected as the Jr. Youth of the Year in 2014.

Dental Health Night in LC

Dental Health Night

Join us on February 24th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. as the Washington Oral Health Foundation leads fun & engaging activities at our Family PLUS Night.

On February 24th, The Washington Oral Health Foundation is gearing up for an initiative to educate Boys & Girls Club families on oral health during our Family PLUS Night from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Dentists will be on-site to lead awesome brushing & flossing activities, and every student that attends will receive an oral hygiene pack. 

Students who have participated in  every activity room will get a ticket to enter in a prize drawing at the end of the night. 

The goal of Family PLUS is to reach, support and empower local families to participate fully in their children’s lives through collaboration with community organizations like the Washington Oral Health Foundation to provide parents and caregivers with resources.
