Cargill Animal Nutrition Recommits to support Clubs

cargillBoys & Girls Club members recently made a visit to Cargill Animal Nutrition, in Burlington, to thank the staff team there for the renewed $3,500 investment on behalf of the 1,600+ youth members who attend the after-school & summer programs at the Clubs. Meeting with the manager, Andrew St. Lawrence, and many others from the mill team, Club members were able to talk about their favorite programs, what brought them to the Clubs, and the impact that they saw through the Club opportunities. “We share a common, and central passion—healthy lifestyles, and a grounded understanding of nutrition, and its effect on our wellbeing. Cargill has been a great partner,” John Garman, the Clubs’ Director of STEM Initiatives, remarked. “It’s great to work with companies who share our passion for youth, who focus on the healthy lifestyles of our communities, and who focus on nutritional science—from animals to people.”

Cargill Animal Nutrition, as an international leader in agriculture, nutrition, and feed products has been operating for more than 150 years. With a local mill operating in Burlington, and providing innovative animal nutrition solutions for most of the region, Cargill is one of the lead feed producers in Skagit County. The Boys & Girls Clubs’ partnership with Cargill is focused on Healthy Lifestyles programs, and reinforcing the habits & discussion of what leads to healthy lives, and healthy communities.”

Ford Donates $72,600 to Feed Boys and Girls As Holidays Approach

Tom Lane of North Cascade Ford stopped recently stopped by the Sedro-Woolley Club with a check for $1000 as part of the Ford Focus on Child Hunger campaign. Ford Motor Company Fund is donating $72,600 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Washington, Oregon, northern Idaho, Montana and Alaska, in keeping with its commitment that no child should go hungry—especially as the holidays approach. Each of the Clubs in Skagit County will receive $1000 each from the Ford Fund.

Throughout his career as a Seattle Sports Icon, Rick “The Peanutman” Kaminski lent his notoriety to advance many charitable causes, the most notable being his affinity for the Skagit Valley Boys and Girls Clubs. Now that Rick is flinging peanuts for the Angels, the vendors at Safeco Field have established the Rick the Peanutman Foundation to see to it that this work continues.

The Skagit Valley Boys and Girls Club. empower youth through mentoring, sports, and after school programs. This inaugural event will be funding our Skagit Valley “Youth Of The Year” Program.

It’s not every day you get to experience a unique fundraising event that is slammed packed with mind-boggling, heart-racing and exciting challenges. Skagit’s AMAZING RACE to Raise Great Kids will be from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Sat., June 28. The Awards Party is scheduled directly after the race at 2-3 p.m. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club.

LC Awarded Fine Arts Grant

Art Program Grant

The Fine Art Exhibit program teaches mediums such as ceramics & sculpting.

The La Conner Club has been awarded a grant from Art 4 Moore in the amount of $1,500 to expand its Fine Arts Exhibit program.

Art 4 Moore was founded in 2006 by Stephanie Dains, a former elementary school teacher and registered Art Therapist. Art 4 Moore was a way to honor her late mother, Marjory Moore Brooks. Based out of the San Francisco –Bay Area, their mission is to provide art supplies, support and resources for students, children, youth and others who need it the most.

The Fine Arts Exhibit program in La Conner is now a year-round program that encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6-18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture while providing opportunities for members to create artwork for display in a local exhibit. Led by Arts Coordinator Jeff Mariott, the kids have already begun creating some amazing pieces at the Club. Fine Arts

La Conner Club Director Kendrick Davis-Pittmon said, “We are extremely grateful to everyone from the Art 4 Moore Foundation. With their generous grant, we are able to take our fine arts programming to a whole new level. La Conner is rich in art history, and we look forward to being able to foster and develop the next generation of great local artists”
