SW Kids Read to Succeed

Sedro-Woolley Club Members start Power Hour with 20 minutes of reading each day.

If kids can read, they can succeed! This year reading comprehension is a big focus at the Sedro-Woolley Boys & Girls Club. Power Hour participants at the Sedro-Woolley Club start their homework time with 20 minutes of reading every day. Kathy Brewer from the Sedro-Woolley Public Library visits the Club every Wednesday at 4 pm to read chapter books to Club Members. During Power Hour you’ll find several elementary students reading one-on-one to teen Club Members and high school volunteers. Education Coordinator Sundarah Hammontree is currently testing the reading comprehension level of all the elementary students’ attending the Boys & Girls Club. Members will be retested in December to assess any changes needed for our tutoring program, which will help to ensure members progress in their reading comprehension level.

If you’re interested in becoming a Reading Tutor for our elementary-age homework program, please contact Program Director John Garman at johng@bgcskagit.org or at 360-856-1830.
