SW Teens Learn to Snowboard

SW TOE Group Snowboarding on Mt. Baker

Thanks to the generous support of the Skagit Community Foundation, Foothills Toyota, and the George B. & Ruth Elizabeth Ferguson Advised Fund – the Sedro-Woolley Boys & Girls Clubs took their Teen members snowboarding on Mt. Baker.

February 2nd marked the Sedro-Woolley Teen Center’s first ever snowboarding trip. Eight Teens embarked on a journey Saturday morning, many had never attempted snowboarding, but under the instruction of the Sedro-Woolley Program Director John Garman and Mount Vernon Teen Director  Sarah Levy the Teens hit the slopes at the Mt. Baker Ski Area with confidence. It was a sunshiny day at 43 degrees with Mt. Shuksan in the background and over 150 inches of snow under their boards! What’s the most important skill to learn snowboarding??? How to stop said Club Staff. So the Teens spent the morning learning how to stop, gliding, cutting turns, and successfully riding the chair lift.

We’d like to give a big thanks to the Glacier Ski Shop for outfitting our Teens with the proper gear to launch their snowboarding careers and the kids who participated in trip. You guys rock!
