The Puppet Project Kicks Off

Puppet Project

Club members show off their hand crafted puppets.

In the past several weeks, La Conner Club members have dived into a new program: The Puppet Project!  The Puppet Project uses aspects from the curriculum based program Drama Matters to combine performing arts with mixed media crafting as children create their very own animal puppets.  Program Assistant Wendy Bell, who has a background in theater arts, has guided Club members in designing their puppets and helping them come to life.  Each member was provided a basic, hand crafted puppet base with which start.  Children were then able to add details, such as eyes, mouths, feathers, hair, and noses to turn each puppet into a different animal.

Once each of the puppets are complete, children will come together to learn the popular song “What Does the Fox Say?” along with corresponding choreography for them and their puppets.  The culmination of La Conner’s spring Puppet Project will be a puppet show performance at the June Family PLUS Night on Monday, June 2nd.  This family night will also include a barbecue dinner, family kickball, giant Jenga, and more!

The Puppet Project meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00pm.  For more information regarding The Puppet Project, or any of our targeted programs, please contact Program Director Leah Vazquez at Leah Vazquez at (360) 466-3672 or email leahv@bgcskagit.org.
